MMA fragments 02: TILE
『02: TILE』では、タイルを特集します。公共空間や建物で日々当たり前のように目にする素材、タイル。工業製品でありながら「やきもの」というもう一つの顔を持つこの素材に、今回は着目します。土を焼く、という原点から進化した製造工程により生まれる表情は、単なる工業製品を超えて、現代の建築空間にどのように作用するのか。写真家・細倉真弓による全編撮り下ろしの写真とともに、タイルの一大生産地である岐阜県・多治見探訪記、国立工芸館主任研究員の中尾優衣氏との対談「工業と工芸の間に」などを通して、産業とクラフトのあわいにある、ものづくりの本質について考えます。
MMA fragments 02: TILE features tiles, which are a material that we see every day in public spaces and buildings. This issue focuses on this material, which is an industrial product but also has another aspect -'pottery'. How does the expression created by a manufacturing process that has evolved from its origins in the firing of clay go beyond mere industrial products to affect contemporary architectural spaces? The issue will consider the important essence of craftsmanship, which lies between industry and crafts, through our visit to Tajimi in Gifu Prefecture, a major tile production area, and a discussion with Yui Nakao, curator at the National Crafts Museum in Kanazawa, along with photographs taken by photographer Mayumi Hosokura.
